A Quick Review of Acupuncture and Infertility

The use of acupuncture has been accepted by many generations East and West. There is even some testimony when it comes to acupuncture and infertility.

The Chinese have used acupuncture for thousands of years over several Dynasties. As far back as 11AD, early Chinese literature refers to acupuncture as a treatment for infertility issues for couples. This is traditional Chinese medical practice that has been in existence for many centuries and indeed, it seems to be working.

The whole concept of acupuncture, which basically represents the whole concept adopted by traditional Chinese medical practice, is that a person is capable of healing naturally when stimulated for that purpose. The root cause for immune system failure is then targeted using the pressure points as indicated by a special acupuncture chart.

In Chinese tradition, overall imbalance in the Qi is what causes such illnesses in an individual, and this can be treated using acupuncture techniques. Being a relatively non-invasive procedure, many patients opt for this therapy as opposed to surgical procedures, especially in cases such as cancer or serious heart diseases.

Acupuncture has been controversial in the West, which is why many people still do not opt for this alternative type of treatment. However, the U. S. National Institutes of Health has determined that acupuncture does deserve a niche in the treatment field due to the many studied reports of its success, especially in pain treatment.

Undetermined infertility in married couples is always attributed to hormonal issues due to tension and stress, usually when both individuals are holding careers. In this view, it seems to make sense that acupuncture may work in the stimulation and regulation of hormonal imbalances that may be causing the infertility.

On its own, acupuncture can serve its purpose in treating infertility for couples with hormone imbalances. It can also serve as a complementary treatment after taking modern fertility treatments especially for those patients who have had surgery for their infertility problems. This serves as a type of follow on therapy after modern fertility treatments in order to reduce the toxicity of certain medications instilled during surgical procedures.

The acupuncture techniques work to assist in regulating menstrual cycles, as well as invigorating sperm production. This has been proven by centuries of use of acupuncture as a treatment, as well as both American and European based scientific studies. There is, in fact, and ongoing study correlating the use of acupuncture to the success rate of In Vitro Fertilization or IVF.

There is also a Chinese concept that when a woman has congestion in the liver, this causes added imbalance to her overall fertility system. By targeting the liver malfunction based on signs and symptoms, as well as patient history, acupuncture techniques may be used to treat the liver until it is restored to its full functions, thereby increasing her chances for pregnancy.

Combined with Chinese herbal treatments, acupuncture can be a powerful force in the treatment of infertility. It has proven itself many times over many generations in the East, and is now making its own record in the history of Western medicinal culture.
