Effective Scabies Natural Remedies

Scabies is caused by the mite known as Sarcoptes Scabiei, which burrow their way under the skin causing irritation and itching. It is highly contagious and is spread by skin to skin contact, being particularly common in places such as nurseries or hospitals.

Although you can buy over the counter or prescription treatments, these are usually in the form of strong insecticides. Now although they can be effective, many people express concern about using these directly on the skin and scabies natural remedies are quite rightly very popular.

One of the most effective and popular scabies natural remedy is tea tree oil. Over the last few years, this very powerful oil has been used to treat all manner of conditions and when used correctly, remains very safe even to be used on children. It is great for killing head lice (I used this regularly on my own children when they were small) and it can also kill scabies, which are a similar creature.

Add around 25 drops of tea tree oil to a shallow bath and soak in it for around 20 minutes. A few drops can also be added to a damp cotton wool pad and applied to the worst affected areas.

Other effective scabies natural remedies include Neem oil and garlic.

Neem oil can be mixed with mustard oil and turmeric and this paste can be applied to the skin and left for an hour. Some people also recommend drinking an infusion of Neem leaf tea, which is made by adding a handful of leaves to boiling water and drinking the “tea” after a few minutes.

Garlic can be crushed and applied to the skin. For maximum potency, it can be mixed with a little Neem oil first. Obviously, although this might be an effective treatment, your personal hygiene might suffer in the short term!
